자녀들에게 전하는 편지 1 - 블로그를 시작하며

 사랑하는 자녀들아,

언젠가부터 매일 아침 성경을 읽기 시작했단다. 이제는 아침에 말씀을 읽지 않으면 하루를 시작할 수 없을 만큼, 내게는 말씀이 참 재미있고 소중해졌구나. 우리가 호흡하지 않으면 살 수 없듯이, 아빠에게 말씀은 곧 삶의 호흡과 같단다.

한 가지 아쉬운 고백은, 이렇게 매일 아침 말씀을 읽어도 우리 인간의 나약함 때문에 말씀대로 다 살지 못한다는 점이다. 하지만 그렇다고 해서 읽기를 그만두는 것이 아니라, 오히려 그렇기에 더욱 말씀을 붙잡아야 한다고 생각한다. 말씀을 통해 나를 다스리고, 우리 주변에 사랑을 전하기 위해 노력하는 인생이 되자고 너희에게 말해주고 싶구나.

아빠는 성경을 전문적으로 배운 사람은 아니란다. 그저 말씀을 읽으며 먼저 깨달은 것들을 너희에게 전함으로써, 너희가 조금 더 빨리 믿음 안에서 성장하기를 바라는 마음뿐이다.

사랑하는 인혜와 인건이, 우리 가족이 된 라이언, 그리고 귀여운 서아(Leah)... 여기에 곧 우리 곁으로 올 소중한 새 생명 세린(Maisie)까지. 우리 집안의 모든 아이가 하나님의 말씀으로 이 세상을 넉넉히 이겨나가는 사람이 되기를 진심으로 바란다.

그 간절한 마음을 담아 이 첫 글을 쓴다.

A Heartfelt Message to My Children

My dear children,

At some point, I began reading the Bible every single morning. Now, it has become so precious and joyful to me that I feel I cannot truly start my day without it. Just as we cannot survive without breathing, the Word has become like the very breath of life to me.

I do have one humble confession: even though I read the Word every morning, I often fail to live entirely according to it because of my human weakness. However, I don't believe that is a reason to stop reading. Rather, it is the very reason we must hold onto the Word even more tightly. I want to tell you that we should strive to be people who govern ourselves through the Word and work hard to spread love to those around us.

I am not a biblical scholar or an expert. I simply hope that by sharing the things I’ve realized first through my reading, you might be able to grow in faith a little faster than I did.

To my beloved In-hye and In-gun, to Ryan who became part of our family, to our cute Leah (Seo-ah)... and to our precious new life, Maisie (Se-rin), who will be joining us soon: I truly hope that all the children in our family become people who can't just endure, but abundantly overcome this world through the Word of God.

With all my heart and earnest prayer, I write this first message.
